What it involves
A house is only protected to the level of its weakest opening. Fitting impact windows and leaving an original front door or slider in place leaves the building envelope open, and insurers assessing wind mitigation will treat the property accordingly.
Sliding doors are the most demanding installation on most homes. They are heavy, the openings are large, and the header and track have to be right or the door will bind within a year.
Every impact product must carry a Florida Product Approval or Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance valid for the HVHZ. We install to the approved detail and give you the documentation, because the paperwork is what your insurer and the building department both want to see.
Permits and code
- Door replacement is permitted work and inspected, including on a like-for-like swap.
- Products need HVHZ-valid approvals; the anchoring detail in that approval is what the inspector checks.
- Changing an opening size brings structure into scope and may require engineering.
