What it involves
Finishing level is the thing homeowners are rarely told about. A standard builder finish shows every imperfection under raking light; a level 5 skim coat does not. If your walls will catch side light from a window, it is worth specifying.
Water damage repair is the most common drywall job in South Florida, and cutting out damaged board is the easy half. Finding and fixing the source first, and drying the cavity properly, is what stops it coming back.
Texture matching on an older home takes patience. Knockdown, orange peel and hand-applied textures all age, and a patch that is technically correct can still read as a patch if the texture is not matched to the surrounding wall.
Permits and code
- Drywall as part of a wider permitted remodel is inspected at the framing and insulation stages, before board goes up.
- Straight replacement of damaged board in the same location is generally not separately permitted.
- Fire-rated assemblies, such as a garage-to-house wall, must be rebuilt to the rated detail.

How long before I can paint?
Joint compound needs to dry fully between coats. Most rooms are ready for primer within a few days.
Can you match my existing texture?
Usually yes. We sample and test against the existing wall before applying it to the repair.
