What it involves
South Florida sits on sand, limestone and a high water table, so a slab is only as good as what is underneath it. Compaction, base preparation and drainage are what separate a driveway that lasts twenty years from one that cracks in three.
Reinforcement matters as much as the mix. We size rebar and mesh to the load the surface will actually carry, and we detail control joints so the concrete cracks where it is meant to rather than where it wants to.
Spalling — where rust in the reinforcement expands and pushes the concrete off — is a common problem in older coastal properties. It is a repair worth doing properly once rather than patching repeatedly.
Permits and code
- Structural concrete is permitted work and inspected before the pour, so scheduling matters.
- Replacing a driveway in the same footprint is often simpler than adding new impervious area, which can trigger drainage review.
- Work in the right-of-way, including an apron up to the street, generally needs separate approval.

Can you match existing concrete?
Colour and texture can be matched closely but rarely perfectly, because existing concrete has weathered. Where appearance matters we usually recommend replacing a whole section.
